A public meeting will be held in Peebles over primary school plans

Scottish Borders Council (SBC) has agreed in principle to build a new Kingsland Primary at Neidpath Grazings with Violet Bank as a fallback site.

SNP MSP Christine Grahame has set up a meeting in the town to gauge public opinion on the plan.

People at the meeting in the Drill Hall at 1900 on Tuesday will fill in forms naming their preferred site.

SBC director of education Glenn Rodger said the authority did not as yet have a clear timetable for building the Kingsland replacement.

"I would rather wait and see while we go through the planning process before coming down with a firm time scale," he said.

"The planning process itself can always take some time."

Preferred option

Mr Rodger confirmed that Violet Bank remained a second choice site if problems emerged with the Neidpath Grazings option.

The public meeting will be asked to give its opinion on whether this is the preferred option for parents.

"I am not taking any sides on this," said Ms Grahame. "It's a meeting for parents."
