Call for cash commitment to roads
A76 road sign
Alasdair Morgan wants cash committed to the A76 and A75
A plea has been made for a multi-million pound cash commitment to upgrade roads in the south of Scotland.

It comes after Transport Minister Tavish Scott announced action plans for the A9 and A82 which could see up to 350m invested in improvements.

South of Scotland SNP MSP Alasdair Morgan is now seeking a similar plan to be drawn up for his area.

He believes the A75 and A76 are both in as urgent need of an upgrade as the routes in the Highlands.

"There is no question that the A82 and A9 both need upgraded and the announcement is clearly good news," said Mr Morgan.

"However, there is equally no question that the A75 and A76 are in just as much need."

Firm commitment

Mr Morgan said it was disappointing that there seemed to be no political will to make a firm commitment to the roads.

"That is why I am calling on Tavish Scott to make that commitment and commission Transport Scotland to undertake new studies into the work needed on both routes, as he has done with the A82 and A9."

Mr Scott has already pledged to act on the two routes after visiting the region recently.

He promised the executive would look "closely and quickly" at what could be done to improve the accident record on the A75 and A76.
