Woman killed in island snow crash

Shetland fatal scene
The emergency services were called out to help

A woman has died and two other people have been airlifted to hospital after their car crashed into a burn on Shetland in snowy conditions.

The emergency services were alerted to the B9071 accident, two miles from Sand, at about 1040 GMT.

The woman died at the scene, and two people were airlifted to Lerwick by Coastguard helicopter.

Northern Constabulary said the road between Skeld and Parkhall was closed and diversions had been put into place.
