Children charged for city crimes

Grampian Police
Police hoped the charges send out a strong message

Boys and girls aged between 12 and 16 have been charged following a spate of vandalism in Aberdeen.

Police launched an "intelligence-led operation" due to an increase in problems in the Powis and Bedford area since March.

Ten boys and one girl were charged in connection with various acts of vandalism, mainly involving windows and greenhouse glass panes being broken.

Grampian Police said it hoped the move would send out a "strong message".

'Mindless acts'

Sgt Hamish King said: "While these incidents were relatively minor in terms of costs, they certainly were not minor to the people whose property was damaged.

"They were quite understandably angry and upset by being targeted by vandals.

"Reports are being submitted to the appropriate agencies in connection with the youngsters who have been charged."

He added: "I would urge parents to speak to their youngsters about their behaviour outwith the home and make them aware that mindless acts by a few can have a serious detrimental impact on people's quality of life."
