Hazel Tindall earlier won the fastest knitter title back in 2004

Hazel Tindall, from Shetland, represented the UK at the international contest in Minneapolis.

She had previously been crowned the world's fastest knitter with 255 stitches in three minutes in 2004.

This time around, Mrs Tindall's fingers managed 262 stitches in three minutes, casting off the attentions of her nearest rival with 243.

Leading knitters from across Europe and America took part in the competition.

Mrs Tindall said she was brought up in a family where her grandmother was regularly knitting.

She told BBC Scotland: ""I think you need to have good technique and move your hands as little as possible.

"Everyone has their own way of doing it. I have been knitting for more than half a century."
