Support was sought for The Lemon Tree after the news
A bid to save The Lemon Tree arts venue in Aberdeen has failed to raise sufficient funds.

Liquidators have now begun the task of winding up the business, after a meeting of creditors on Friday.

Staff had started a campaign to raise 150,000 to save the centre after it closed its doors earlier this month.

Liquidators said there was virtually no chance of a rescue package. Bookings were earlier cancelled and customers are waiting to hear about refunds.

The centre's board had rejected an offer of financial aid from Aberdeen City Council, opting to close instead.

The board said The Lemon Tree was unable to continue trading when it did not have enough funds to meet its liabilities.

Many acts which have performed at The Lemon Tree contacted BBC Scotland after the news in support of the popular venue.
