A care home in Aberdeen run by nuns for over 150 years is to close with the residents moving to new premises. Since the departure of the Sisters of Nazareth last year, the Nazareth Care Home off Union Grove has been managed by a trust.
Originally Nazareth House home for children, it made headlines when court proceedings and compensation claims were brought by former child residents.
Its elderly residents are now set to be moved to a purpose-built care home.
Compensation payments
Speaking on behalf of the Trustees of Nazareth Care Home, Dr Anne Cannon said: "We are very excited about the prospect of a new home, with first class state of the art facilities.
"We have now invited residents, staff and relatives to help us with the planning of the whole project."
Payouts of thousands of pounds recently followed compensation hearings involving people who were at the homes in Aberdeen, Glasgow and Kilmarnock.
The former residents, most of whom are now in their 40s, 50s or 60s, claimed they were abused, beaten or humiliated.
