It is hoped the work against flooding will start in October |
An 8.45m flood alleviation scheme for the Moray town of Forres has been approved. The Scottish Executive has given its backing to the project, subject to Moray Council making modifications.
It is hoped that once a six-week consultation has concluded work can begin by October.
Most of the costs will be funded by the Scottish Executive, and Moray Council will fund the remainder from reserves. The council welcomed the approval.
Moray Council's convener Eddie Coutts said: "I'm pleased the announcement has been made.
"The modifications required by the Scottish Executive have come about as a result of local consultation and the subsequent public inquiry, a strong indication that when we engage in consultation it is both meaningful and brings results."
Many parts of Moray have a history of devastating floods.
