Stuck climber saved by rescuers
Braemar Mountain Rescue Team
Braemar Mountain Rescue Team was involved in the search
A climber who was in trouble at the top of Lochnagar, overlooking the Queen's Balmoral estate, has been found by rescuers.

The male climber called police by mobile phone just after 1000 GMT to raise the alarm.

He was believed to have been stuck below a snow cornice.

Rescuers were airlifted to the scene by a rescue helicopter from RAF Lossiemouth, and the climber was then being walked down to safety.

The climber had been told to stay where he was pending the rescue.

'Happy ending'

The helicopter airlifted eight mountain rescue team members to near the summit, then they proceeded on foot.

The man was found and extracted using ropes just after 1500 GMT.

He was believed to have been inexperienced in winter climbing but was well clad for the conditions.

Sgt Andrew Todd, of Grampian Police Mountain Rescue Team, said: "Due to the experience and training of the team this was a straightforward rescue with a happy ending.

"The man concerned was uninjured and he is fine."

The team was expected to arrive back at their Ballater base after 1700 GMT.
