The bypass is aimed at cutting congestion in and around Aberdeen |
Aberdeen's International School - facing demolition to allow the city's bypass to be built - has lodged a planning application to relocate. The school is planning to move from Milltimber to a new site at Pitfodels.
The line of the planned bypass goes through the International School, which houses about 400 pupils.
The school has submitted an application to Aberdeen City Council to relocate which would see the Fox Lane Garden Centre moving from Pitfodels.
It is understood an alternative garden centre site on council-owned land at Skene has already been identified.
'Potential delay'
The proposed new school includes a swimming pool, sports pitches and a gymnasium.
The application states: "The International School of Aberdeen is relocating to this site as a consequence of the construction of the Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route. The proposed line is through the existing school.
"For the avoidance of doubt the Victorian Pitfodels House is retained. The tower to the east of the house is also retained.
"The consideration of alternative sites has been done in depth - most would have led to delay for this project and potential delay for the AWPR."
The application will be advertised next week seeking comments and officers will then assess the application and submit their recommendations to the planning committee.
The bypass has attracted much local criticism, however the road has considerable support from local businesses which believe it is vital to the future economy.
The 46km bypass will cost hundreds of millions of pounds to build.
