 Aberdeen's hotel growth was ahead of Edinburgh and Glasgow |
Aberdeen has the fastest growing hotel market in the UK outside of London, according to a new survey. It shows hotel revenues in the granite city rose by more than 15% last year, mostly down to weekday business demand from the North Sea oil and gas sector.
It was ahead of Edinburgh's hotel revenues, which increased by almost 7%, and Glasgow's, which were up by 9.5%.
The HotelBenchmark Survey by Deloitte said Aberdeen's rise per available room was impressive.
Derek Henderson, oil and gas partner for Deloitte and president of the Aberdeen and Grampian Chamber of Commerce, said: "The HotelBenchmark Survey demonstrates the buoyancy and optimism within the local economies.
"The role of Aberdeen as a regional hub for the oil and gas industry's eastern hemisphere operations, along with increased activity levels in the North Sea, is contributing.
"Elsewhere the survey reflects the continued strength of the financial services and leisure and tourism sectors in Scotland."
