Youth football scores crime win
Football
The football scheme has been hailed a success
A scheme to get Aberdeen youths playing football has seen anti-social behaviour substituted with sport, police claim.

Complaints in the Dyce area have fallen by almost 70% since the Streetfootball project kicked off last month to try to stop teenagers drinking alcohol.

Grampian Police put a portable football pitch in the car park at the local Asda after concerns were raised about young people gathering outside the store.

A typical Friday night can now see up to 50 boys and girls using the pitch.

There had been concerns expressed about youth behaviour by Asda staff and customers.

Asda's Dyce branch general manager Gordon Neish said: "The project has been fantastic for the store and has been a crucial element in reducing the youth problems."
