 Beggars regularly use Aberdeen's streets to seek money |
People in Aberdeen will soon be able to use collection boxes rather than giving money directly to street beggars. About 10 boxes will be positioned on Union Street close to banks and building societies by late November.
The money raised will be split between charities who will use the cash to buy essential items such as blankets and food.
Aberdeen City Council said the collection boxes would be made as secure as possible.
The charity Shelter Scotland earlier criticised the idea, saying some people have no choice but to beg.
However, council officials hope the boxes will give the donating public more confidence that their money will be put to effective use.
