Fans can donate between 3 and 100 on the website |
Two lifelong Aberdeen Football Club fans have set up a website to raise cash towards the cost of new players. IT engineer Andy Cordiner and web designer Chris Ormiston had the idea after becoming frustrated with the lack of transfer activity at the club.
The site allows Aberdeen fans to donate between 3 and 100, via secure money transfer system Paypal.
The pair hope www.fundadon.co.uk can help to raise 100,000 in time for the January 2007 transfer window.
The scheme, which is run completely separately from the Aberdeen Football Club Trust, has the backing of the fans' group and the club itself.
Aberdeen FC financial director Duncan Fraser said: "We are delighted to work extremely closely with fans groups like this, that have the same vision as the club, namely a successful Aberdeen Football Club.
"We would like to wish fundadon every success."
Mr Cordine, from Stonehaven, said the idea came about when frustrated fans were desperately awaiting news of transfers last January on the various football forums.
"We had seen several signing targets fail due to lack of finance for transfer fees, even when the fees involved were relatively small amounts," he said.
"It was mentioned on some forum posts that a lot of fans would gladly dip into their own pockets if it meant we would generate enough to secure a top class player.
"Aberdeen FC were keen for us to work with the AFC trust to ensure that the public would recognise the fund as a legitimate venture."
The launch of the fundadon website comes a month after Dons chairman Stewart Milne and major shareholder Aberdeen Asset Management agreed to plough 2m into the club to ease its 9m debts.
