The under-threat capercaillie is reported to be making a comeback in pine woods along Deeside. It follows a marked decline in the population of the turkey-sized grouse throughout the north of Scotland.
The bird is one of the UK's most threatened species with a population of only 900.
The RSPB said it was crucial that its population increased across Scotland and asked people to report any sightings.
Kenny Kortland, of the RSPB, said Deeside offered ideal habitat for the capercaillie.
"The thing about Deeside is that a lot of the woods are on steepish slopes," he said.
"People tend to stay on tracks and so the birds get used to predictable disturbances."
Mr Kortland warned that the bird population in Deeside was still quite small.
He added: "It's crucial that we increase the population and we really appreciate any sightings."
