Golf can bring huge amounts of money to the economy |
Aberdeen and Grampian's profile as a golfing destination is set to be raised at a major trade show. The TGI Scottish Golf Show will be held at the Royal Highland Centre at Ingliston from Friday until Sunday.
VisitScotland will be promoting Aberdeen and Grampian with partners including Murcar Links Golf Club.
The event is expected to attract around 15,000 golfing enthusiasts with exhibitors including retailers, golf courses and hotels.
Leisure marketing executive for VisitScotland in Aberdeen and Grampian, Sian Williamson, said: "Aberdeen and Grampian has a fantastic golfing heritage.
'Unmissable event'
"Our profile has really been enhanced with last year's British Seniors Open [Aberdeen], the proposed Donald Trump development at Menie [Aberdeenshire], and the European Challenge Tour coming to Murcar Links Golf Club in a month.
"With this being the first show of its kind in Scotland, the TGI Scottish Golf Show promises to be an unmissable event for anyone with an interest in golf."
Derek Mortimer, captain at Murcar Links Golf Club, said: "The Scottish Golf Show gives us an ideal chance to showcase our refurbished and revamped golf course and club."
A recent study by Scottish Enterprise Grampian showed that the 2005 Senior British Open brought more than an extra 1m into the north east of Scotland's economy.
Golf in the area has made headlines in recent months due to US billionaire Mr Trump's plans to build a luxury 300m course and hotel development north of Aberdeen. However, environmentalists have raised concerns.
And Aberdeen has also been announced as the venue for the prestigious 2011 Walker Cup golf competition.
America will take on Great Britain and Ireland at Royal Aberdeen in the international amateur contest which takes places every two years.
