Police are investigating the shooting of an elderly woman in Aberdeen with an air weapon. The 72-year-old woman felt a sharp pain in her back as she walked in Great Northern Road near Murray Court.
Her injury after Friday evening's incident suggested she had been shot by an air pellet.
Grampian Police said: "This was an irresponsible act. Had it struck her in the face she could have been seriously injured."
The incident is being treated as the reckless discharge of an air weapon.
She found a bruise on her back but did not require medical assistance.
House-to-house inquiries have been carried out in the area. Sergeant Colin Christie said: "This was an extremely irresponsible act by whoever was responsible.
"The woman concerned was fortunate that the pellet struck her on the body.
"We are anxious to speak to anyone who may have seen anyone in the area with an air gun, or has knowledge of anyone in the area who possesses an air gun."
