New co-ordinator for snow service

An international mountain guide with 25 years experience has joined the Scottish Avalanche Information Service (SAIS) as its new co-ordinator.

Mark Diggins is an instructor at Glenmore Lodge, near Inverness, from where the Sportscotland-run service operates.

He previously worked with the Canadian Avalanche Association and with mountain guides and skiers in the Alps.

In winter, the SAIS reports daily on conditions in popular climbing areas.

The service covers North Cairngorms, South Cairngorms, Lochaber, Glencoe and Creag Meagaidh.
