Texts to warn of avalanche risks

Climbers can subscribe to the new text service

Climbers can have avalanche assessments from five Scottish mountain areas sent by text to their mobile phones.

Until now, sportscotland's Avalanche Information Service and its daily reports have only been available over the internet.

The service covers North Cairngorms, South Cairngorms, Lochaber, Glencoe and Creag Meagaidh.

People have to subscribe to the new text service and are charged �1 per message.
