The BBC's Gaelic television news programme has been launched. An La went on air at 2000 BST and the half hour programme will be broadcast every weekday evening. Covering a local, national and international agenda, it follows the launch of the new Gaelic television channel BBC Alba. Earlier this year, an extension to the news section of the BBC Alba website was unveiled to allow people to access online stories in Gaelic. First time The television ventures are a collaboration between MG Alba and the BBC and available on Sky and Freesat. Norrie Maclennan, Gaelic news editor, said An La was a landmark for the Gaelic language. The extension to the website - Naidheachdan - went live in February. Stories from the Highlands and Islands are given primacy. Its launch marked the first time that entire news stories were published online on a daily basis in the Gaelic language.
