The new Gaelic television channel BBC Alba has unveiled a package of programmes it will run from its launch on Friday. Documentaries to be shown over the next few weeks include Turas Trump, which will look at US tycoon Donald Trump's Scottish connections. Another reports on the life of French football star Zinedine Zidane, who was sent off in the 2006 World Cup final. The new channel is a collaboration between MG Alba and the BBC. It will be available on satellite and cable throughout the UK, with content also available online. Runrig song Alan Esslemont, head of content for MG Alba, said the organisation was confident that viewers would find the package attractive. Margaret Mary Murray, head of service for BBC Alba, said: "The launch of BBC Alba is a landmark for Gaelic broadcasting and the Gaelic community and it is hoped that this new channel will also be a valued addition to the Scottish audience." The channel will go live with a new version of the Runrig song Alba. It was re-recorded by Gaelic performers including Karen Matheson from the band Capercaillie, Tony Kearney from BBC Scotland soap River City and traditional singers Arthur Cormack and Cathy-Ann MacPhee. Children attending the Glasgow Gaelic School will also feature in the video.
