The A82 runs from the Highlands to the central belt |
Campaigners for an upgrade of the A82 road have asked the Scottish Government for a clear programme of improvements in a "reasonable timescale". Alasdair Ferguson, of the A82 Partnership, said the group was happy with its meeting with Transport Minister Stewart Stevenson. But he said 16m spent so far out of 90m promised for works was a "bit of a drop in the ocean". Campaigners said the route from Inverness to Glasgow was not safe. Mr Ferguson said: "There has been severe neglect of spending on the A82 in recent years, over the last number of decades to be fair. "The minister has gone away quite clear that we are looking for money to be spent on the A82 now and get a programme of works that we can all clearly identify with and within a reasonable timescale." The campaigners previously told the Scottish petitions committee meeting in Dumbarton that the road needed improvements urgently. More than 8,500 people have signed the petition calling for improvements.
