Relatives have paid tribute to motorists who helped a Dutch family from their burning car after a fatal crash in the Highlands. Guido Coffeng, 35, and son Naut, one, died following a crash on the A9 at The Slochd on Saturday afternoon. Mother and daughter Karina and Carliyn Coffeng survived. The girl has been discharged from hospital. Retired couple David, 71, and Juliet Oswald, 68, of Newburgh, Fife, who were in the other vehicle, also died. Mrs Coffeng was still receiving treatment in Raigmore Hospital in Inverness on Tuesday. In a statement, the Coffeng's relatives said: "The Coffeng and Nieland families wish to thank family, extended family, friends and staff from the ambulance, fire, hospital and police services for their support and special care for Karina and Carliyn Coffeng. "A special thanks is also extended to the passers-by who helped get the family out of their burning vehicle." It added: "The loss of father, son, brother and husband Guido and their beloved angel Naut in such tragic circumstances will remain with them forever."
