Witness plea over Highlands crash

Crash scene
Three adults and a young child died in the A9 crash

Police have appealed for witnesses to a crash on the A9 in which three adults and a two-year-old boy were killed.

A Dutch-registered Volvo estate and a pick-up truck collided on the A9 at The Slochd, north of Aviemore, on Saturday.

A woman and a girl injured in the crash remain in a stable condition. Police said it could be several days before the victims were formally identified.

Officers said they had traced a key eye-witness but urged anyone with information to get in touch.

Ch Insp Jim Neil said: "This was a horrific incident and our thoughts are with the families involved.

"It is important that we establish the cause of this terrible collision and I would appeal to all witnesses to come forward and contact police with any information that they might have.

"I would also add that this is a very busy time on the roads across the Highland area and there have been a number of collisions in recent days. It is imperative that people drive safely and with extreme caution."
