Police name fatal A9 crash pair

A man and a four-year-old girl who died in a collision on the A9 on Saturday have been named by police.

Paul Anderson, 48, and his granddaughter Samantha Jane Carr, both from Colne in Lancashire, were killed in a crash involving four vehicles.

It happened at about 0930 BST near Dalwhinnie. A woman and a girl were also injured.

Meanwhile, calls have been made for the A9 from Perth to Inverness to be made a dual carriageway to improve safety.

Conservative MSP Murdo Fraser said there was a "compelling case" to upgrade the road.

Another crash

"The parliamentary answers that I recently obtained from the government showed that the number of accidents on the single carriageway sections of the A9 was four times that of the dual carriageway sections," he said.

"I think that makes the case beyond any doubt that it is the single carriageway sections that are the problem.

"That's why I think it's vital that we press ahead with upgrading the road in its entirety from Perth to Inverness to a dual carriageway."

Meanwhile, there was another crash on the A9 on Monday, involving two cars pulling caravans.

No-one was injured and the road has been closed at Crubbenmore, between Dalwhinnie and Kingussie. Diversions have been put in place.
