The working arrangements of the new administration have to be confirmed |
A new coalition has been put together to run Highland Council. The administration, announced at a press conference in Inverness, comprises 30 Independents, 20 Liberal Democrats and seven Labour councillors. In opposition will be the 17 councillors of the Independents' former coalition partners, the SNP, and the six-member Independent Members Group. A special meeting is to be held on 1 August to confirm the new working arrangements. Resigned positions The formation of the new coalition followed a series of talks between the groups, which were sparked by the SNP's split from the Independents. Nationalist councillors formally resigned senior positions held within the local authority. Independent, Liberal Democrat and Labour leaders have agreed a system which they said should take the council through the next four years.
