The Sainsbury's planned would be the first in the Highlands |
Plans for a major development that includes the Highland's first Sainsbury's supermarket has been approved by councillors. The store is part of a proposed 20m development planned for Nairn. Retail units and a petrol station are also included in Pettifer Estates' plan for a site at Balmakeith, on the east side of the town. Highland councillors meeting in Nairn voted 12 to two in favour of the outline planning application. Pettifer Estates said it would now consult the local community on a more detailed application. There is a possibility the plans could be called in by Scottish ministers for consideration. It has been said the development could create 300 jobs, a mix of full and part-time posts. Public transport links, footpaths and a 365-space car park have also been proposed.
