The vaults would be built at the Dounreay site |
A plan to build vaults to hold low-level radioactive waste from the Dounreay nuclear complex in Caithness are being pushed forward. Dounreay Site Restoration Limited (DSRL) have asked Highland Council to restart the planning application process for the on-site proposal. Scottish Environment Protection Agency (Sepa) had requested an extension to consultation on the plan in 2006. DSRL said the application was now ready for the council's consideration. The cost to design, construct, operate and close the vaults would be about 110m and would be required for the lifespan of the decommissioning programme.
