A �1.6m renewable power scheme which will give a remote island electricity 24-hours-a-day for the first time is due to go live within weeks. Years of planning have gone into the scheme on Eigg.
There are more than 30 homes on the island, which will be provided with electricity generated from a mix of hydro, wind and solar power.
Most homes currently depend on less reliable diesel generators, while other are supplied by small hydro schemes.
The switchover, which the Isle of Eigg Heritage Trust said was expected before the end of January, will allow some islanders to use appliances such as washing machines.
The trust raised �45,000 for the project and the islanders brought in a further �30,000.
Funding also came from Europe, the Big Lottery Fund, Highlands and Islands Enterprise, Highlands and Islands Community Energy Company, Scottish Government and Highland Council.
