The centre is designed to help immerse visitors in history

The National Trust for Scotland (NTS) project is the largest construction scheme the trust has ever undertaken.

It features a special interactive exhibition following a real life character through the years of the Jacobite rebellion.

The centre should have opened on the anniversary of the battle in April but has been hit by delays.

It has only just made its subsequent target of opening before the end of the Highland Year of Culture.

Among the hi-tech displays is a 360 degree total immersion film, plunging visitors into the heart of the battle itself.

NTS project managers have said advanced technology issues were involved in the hold-up.

The new centre has been funded by the Scottish Government through VisitScotland as part of the Highland Year of Culture, as well as the European Regional Development Fund and Inverness and East Highland Enterprise.
