The wind farm is proposed for Barvas Moor on Lewis |
Moves to secure work for Highlands and Islands firms from a 176-turbine wind farm planned for Barvas Moor on Lewis have been welcomed by councillors. Comhairle nan Eilean Siar's vice convener Angus Campbell said it would bring economic benefits to the isles.
Five companies have formed a consortium to lead talks with Lewis Wind Power (LWP) to deliver services and labour if it gets the go-ahead.
Scottish ministers have still to make a decision on the wind farm application.
The formal plan before them is for 181 turbines, but if approved 176 are expected to be built in line with the local authority's consent for that number.
The consortium - which includes Camcal, the operators of the troubled Arnish fabrication yard in Stornoway - said the project could see the creation of hundreds of jobs in the Western Isles and elsewhere.
LWP is a joint venture between Amec and British Energy.
