Sir Elton will be in Inverness later this year |
Sir Elton John is to play his first concert in the Highlands as part of the area's cultural festival. The superstar will perform outdoors at a football ground in Inverness this July, organisers have confirmed.
It is being staged at Tulloch Stadium, the home of Scottish Premier League side Inverness Caledonian Thistle.
An estimated 17,000 concert-goers will be able to use existing seating at the stadium, as well as reserved seating on the pitch.
Football-mad Sir Elton has recently played concerts at football stadiums around the UK including St Mary's Stadium in Southampton.
Tickets for the Inverness concert on Sunday, 15 July, will be priced from 40.
Alan Savage, chairman of Inverness Caledonian Thistle FC - which will benefit from the concert - said money raised would go towards helping the club.
He said: "I'm extremely proud that our club has been able to bring north a global icon and host such a superb occasion.
"The whole area will be buzzing at the news.
"It should be a real money spinner and all our income from the concert will go to strengthening manager Charlie Christie's football budget for next season."
Highland 2007 is a year-long celebration of Highland culture, and aims to promote the Highlands as a place to live and to visit.
Alison Magee, chairman of Highland 2007, added: "We are delighted to be bringing such a major artist to the Highlands in 2007."
Tickets for the concert will go on public sale on Tuesday, 23 January.
