A head teacher has been appointed for Scotland's first purpose-built Gaelic primary school. Janet MacLeod is head of Sleat Primary School on the Isle of Skye and will take up her new appointment next year.
The new primary is being built at a cost of �4m on a site neighbouring Inverness Royal Academy (IRA) under a Public Private Partnership programme.
Sleat is also designated to be an all-Gaelic school with an English medium unit.
Mrs MacLeod taught business studies at IRA and Plockton High School before moving to teach at Sleat in 1989 and becoming head teacher in 1994.
Between January 2004 and June this year, she was seconded to Learning and Teaching Scotland as a development officer.
