 Monitoring for radioactive particles began in the 1980s |
Three radioactive hotspots have been found on Sandside public beach next to the mothballed Dounreay nuclear plant in Caithness. It brings the total number of discoveries for this year to 15.
Two particles were discovered on Saturday and another on Monday afternoon.
The three hotspots pushes the total recovered from the beach to 73 since monitoring for particles began there in the 1980s.
The metallic fragments of reprocessed reactor fuel are linked to a rogue historic discharge from the plant.
The United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA) is leading the decommissioning of the site.
