A proposal for a �127m waste treatment plant, intended to play a vital role in the clean-up of the Dounreay nuclear site, has been put forward. The UK Atomic Energy Authority, which is clearing the Caithness complex, has lodged plans with Highland Council.
If approved, the plant would treat almost 80% of all radioactive waste and employ about 120 workers.
It would be the biggest single nuclear decommissioning facility at Dounreay. Work building it could begin in 2008.
