Plans for new university delayed
UHI 2007 prospectus
UHI hoped to have the university title by 2007
Highland higher education institute UHI Millennium Institute has revealed that it is unlikely to attain full university status in 2007 as hoped.

However, UHI said it remained confident its bid would be successful.

The Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education said more time was needed for the institute to become the University of the Highlands and Islands.

The agency said UHI programmes were of a high quality, but it has asked for a stronger university structure.

Principal Professor Bob Cormack said: "We had hoped to achieve university title in 2007.

"It is now unlikely that this will happen next year, however we will continue to work closely with the QAA to achieve the title at the earliest opportunity."
