Police have vowed to continue a crackdown on underage drinking as a five-week drive aimed at tackling the problem draws to a close. During the Safer Scotland campaign more than 285 litres of alcohol was seized from youngsters and street drinkers in the Highlands and Islands.
Northern Constabulary said nine people were charged for allegedly selling alcohol to under-18s.
A number of people were also detected flouting drinking in public laws.
Ch Insp Ian Arnott, the officer co-ordinating Northern Constabulary's role in the Safer Scotland campaign, said: "Drink and violence go hand in hand and police have been adopting a pro-active stance in their attempts to reduce drink-related violence throughout this campaign and will continue."
He added: "Northern Constabulary will continue to work towards maintaining a safe community.
"We welcome the assistance given by the community and licensees and their staff during this campaign."
