Events are still being added to the programme |
The programme for the Year of Highland Culture - better known as Highland 2007 - has been launched at a reception in the Scottish Parliament. Ministers, MSPs, musicians and arts organisations turned out in their hundreds for the event.
Musicians and performers took over the garden lobby at Holyrood.
Culture Minister Patricia Ferguson said Highland 2007 was not a consolation prize for the area missing out in the European Capital of Culture contest.
She said: "Highland 2007 is an excellent opportunity to encourage communities to come together and celebrate their rich cultural heritage."
'Great place'
Alison Magee, chairwoman of Highland 2007, said the calendar of events covers culture, arts, heritage, language, sport, science and environment.
She added: "The programme offers something for everyone wishing to join in the celebrations of Highland culture and highlights what a great place the Highlands and Islands are to live and to visit."
Gigs, venues and exhibitions are being added to the programme on an ongoing basis.
