The post-Reformation church is on the tip of the Black Isle |
A historic 400-year-old church in Ross-shire is through to the live final of BBC Two's Restoration programme. Cromarty East Church has emerged as best runner-up from across the UK and is the second Scottish finalist.
It joins Dennis Head Old Beacon - one of the oldest surviving lighthouses in Scotland - on North Ronaldsay, Orkney.
The phonelines will go live at 0001 BST on Friday and will remain open until towards the end of the Restoration Village Final on Sunday at 2100 BST.
Cromarty East Church was built between the late 16th and early 17th Century and has category A listing.
'Fantastic news'
David Alston, Highland councillor for Black Isle North, said he was delighted it had earned a place in the final.
He said: "Cromarty East Church has been at the heart of the community for centuries and we hope that this will aid the efforts to restore it and preserve it for future generations."
Colin McLean, Heritage Lottery Fund manager for Scotland, added: "This is fantastic news and shows the real passion that people have for Scotland's heritage.
"Our congratulations go the Scottish Redundant Churches Trust and we wish the best of luck to both of Scotland's finalists."
