Woodrolfe Granary at Tollesbury, Essex, is among the contenders

All of the "architectural gems" are in the countryside and include a granary, a lighthouse and four churches.

Three will be profiled each week for seven weeks, starting later this month.

Viewers have previously chosen Victoria Baths in Manchester and Birmingham's Old Grammar School and Saracens Head to be returned to their former glory.

Each won �500,000, with restoration of the baths now taking place and the school expected to open in early 2008.

Howsham Mill in North Yorkshire will also vie for public votes

Griff Rhys Jones, who will present Restoration Village, said rural areas were "facing change and disruption over the next 100 years".

"It is going to be a challenge to all of us to manage that change," he said.

He said it was "these neglected, ordinary, familiar landmarks of the country that we need to save - barns, chapels, farmhouses, inns, workshops".

"Restoration Village is a fantastic opportunity to see what we value and why on the rural scene."
