Prince Charles and Duchess of Rothesay arrive at Kyle of Lochalsh |
Prince Charles and the Duchess of Rothesay have joined the Queen on her family cruise around the Western Isles. The couple boarded the Hebridean Princess, a former car ferry, at Kyle of Lochalsh on Wednesday evening.
They waved to a crowd of onlookers before climbing the steps to join other members of the Royal Family already on the vessel.
The cruise is recreating a trip the family made on the Royal Yacht Britannia before it was decommissioned.
Locals at Kyle said the prince had driven himself and the duchess from Inverness and arrived at 1915 BST on Wednesday.
They will be going on to the late Queen Mother's home at Castle of Mey in Caithness.
Glasgow-registered
It has been reported that the Royal Family paid about 125,000 to charter the former Caledonian MacBrayne ferry for the week-long trip.
Small cruise ship company Hebridean now owns the Hebridean Princess.
It normally sails from Oban for tours of the Scottish islands and to Norway. The vessel can carry 49 guests and is usually run by a crew of 38.
According to Hebridean, the Glasgow-registered vessel has 30 "spacious, elegant and well-equipped" cabins and another 11 for single travellers.
