Inverness bidding for the Baftas
Cast of BBC drama Sea of Souls
Sea of Souls was a past winner
The Eden Court Theatre in Inverness is bidding to host the 2007 Scottish Bafta Awards as part of the Highland year of culture celebrations.

If successful it could see some of the country's best film and television talent brought to the Highland capital.

The theatre on the banks of the River Ness is undergoing a 19.3m revamp.

Previous Bafta winners include Frontline Scotland, the drama Sea of Souls, actor Ewan McGregor and actress Tilda Swinton.

Eden Court chiefs hope to wrest the awards ceremony from its usual venues in the central belt.

Highland 2007 - which is organising the year-long festival of arts and culture - said it would put money towards staging the Baftas if the bid was successful.

Eden Court director Colin Marr described the ceremony as a "wonderful opportunity" for the city.

Other previous winners include children's programmes Shoebox Zoo and Balamory.
