Parents occupied a number of Glasgow schools over the Easter holidays |
Parents protesting against primary school closures in Glasgow have reoccupied one of the buildings as it was being shut for good. About a dozen campaigners are believed to be inside Wyndford Primary in Maryhill in protest at the planned demolition of the building. Glasgow City Council voted to close a number of primaries, including Wyndford, at a meeting in April. The Glasgow save Our Schools Campaign also occupied the school at Easter. They have pledged to remain inside the building indefinitely. Councillors in Glasgow have voted to close 11 of the city's schools and nine nurseries, despite parents' opposition. They said the move was necessary to tackle falling school rolls and crumbling buildings. A council spokeswoman said: "This school is closed and will stay closed. This protest is pointless and can make no difference."
