M74 rule breach allegation denied

The M74 tendering process was flawed, according to the Greens
The government agency Transport Scotland has said it played by the rules in the tendering process for the M74 extension.

A Scottish Green Party activist has filed a complaint about the 500m project to the European Commission.

It alleged the process breaks two directives and, in particular, rules regarding anti-competitive practice.

Transport Scotland said the scheme had been properly audited and tendering complied with procurement law.

There is a single bidder for the main contract - a consortium of four companies.

The Greens complaint is against the consortium, the Scottish Government and Transport Scotland.

The five-mile extension is designed to connect the M74 to the M8, west of the Kingston Bridge in Glasgow.

Environmental campaigners have consistently opposed the project.
