Business are expected to benefit from the Games
A new business panel is to be set up to help local companies benefit from the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.

The panel will provide expertise and advice aimed at maximising contract opportunities for small local firms.

Glasgow City Council leader Steven Purcell said previous games in other cities had seen almost 90% of contracts go to local businesses.

Mr Purcell said Scotland needed to be ready to capitalise on the opportunities arising from the Games.

He said: "When the games were held in Melbourne, 87% of the money spent went to local firms.

"Therefore, the opportunities presented by the Games coming to Glasgow are huge, and businesses in the city and throughout Scotland need to be ready to capitalise on that."

The panel will be facilitated by the Glasgow Chamber of Commerce.
