Thousands of people are expected to attend Radiance, Glasgow's second International Festival of Light, this weekend.

Artists, designers and local children have been working on displays at some of the city's best known landmarks.

Among the highlights is French artist Xavier De Richemont's project. He will use the walls of Glasgow Cathedral as a canvas for a light and music mural.

About 67,000 people attended the first festival of light in 2005.

A team of artists have installed 42 lighting artworks on buildings, courtyards and gable ends around the city centre.

The festival runs from shortly after dusk on Friday till Sunday evening.

It takes along three routes - History, Light Art and Gardens of Delight - and will also feature a walking tour and film and music events.

Deputy Lord Provost Allan Stewart said: "The Radiance festival transforms buildings in the city centre through the innovative use of lighting, giving a new perspective to the viewer."

"I am delighted by the quality of the artists at this year's festival, and I am sure that the thousands of people who will come to see the Radiance events will enjoy a wonderful weekend."

Scott Taylor, chief executive of Glasgow City Marketing Bureau, said: "Radiance is an exciting and colourful addition to the city's winter events calendar.

"Glasgow is already a popular festive break destination thanks to its range of fabulous shopping and vibrant nightlife and Radiance is certain to enhance the visitor experience."

This is the first time French artist, Xavier de Richemont's, work has been seen in the UK.

He said: "The cathedral is a beautiful place to work on and it was a great chance to enhance the medieval ideas of the city.

"I gathered information about the history of the building, took some notes, listened to some music and then put them together to tell the story of the Cathedral and St Mungo."

Radiance07 is part of Winterfest Glasgow 2007 and runs from shortly after dusk on Friday till Sunday evening.
