A �3m series of urban renewal projects at derelict sites across one of Scotland's former industrial heartlands have been given the go-ahead. They were recently approved by a session of North Lanarkshire Council's regeneration committee.
The authority has unveiled plans to cut the amount of vacant and derelict land across the area.
Significant progress has already been made, with �2.8m invested in projects last year.
A wide range of economic, environmental and housing projects have been earmarked for the new funding.

These include the regeneration of Coatdyke, the Ravenscraig regional sports facility, Target Tip/Brownsburn Park and affordable housing developments in Motherwell, Airdrie and Cumbernauld.
Councillor Tom Maginnis, the council's regeneration committee convener, said: "A two year local delivery plan was produced which identified projects eligible for investment in 2006-08 and already a tremendous amount of work has been done at vacant and derelict sites bringing with it new businesses and employment opportunities for North Lanarkshire.
"Lanarkshire's reputation as a top business location is growing and projects like these will go some way in ensuring that our local economies reap the benefits from new investment."
Last year, �2,832,005 was invested in a number of projects such as Luggie Glen Business Park, Scott Street Business Centre and affordable housing developments in Shotts and Wishaw.
