North Lanarkshire Council approved the proposals for the former Clydesdale steel works near Motherwell.

The development would transform contaminated land on a 61 acre site in the New Stevenson area of Bellshill.

A year-long project to clean up the land, provide drainage, begin landscaping and build new roads is due to start in August.

The redevelopment would be the second largest regeneration scheme in the area after Ravenscraig and will build more than 500 new homes.
