The site of the former steelworks will be developed over two decades |
The regeneration of Ravenscraig has taken a step forward with a planning application for a 20m redevelopment including house building. Roads could be built and the site levelled to allow house building.
The first phase of works could see 800 homes including social housing and homes for the elderly built on the site of the former Lanarkshire steelworks.
A 1bn investment is planned at Ravenscraig over the next 20 years to regenerate the 1,100-acre site.
Jim Fitzsimons, of developers Ravenscraig Ltd, said: "This is the culmination of several years of planning and preparation by a number of public and private partners who will make Ravenscraig a reality."
A new campus for Motherwell College and a regional sports centre is also planned.
