Police will be out in force to deter and detect offenders
Scotland's largest police force has issued more than 20,000 fines of 30 each since it became an offence to use a mobile phone while driving in 2003.

Strathclyde Police released the figures prior to new penalties which will see the fine increase to 60 and three penalty points imposed from Tuesday.

The force has embarked on a week-long enforcement campaign to catch motorists flouting the law.

Supt Pat Docherty said officers would be out in force to detect offenders.

"Research consistently shows that illegally using a mobile phone while driving is dangerous as it distracts the drivers attention from the road," he said.
